In Greek mythology, the Ourea were the gods of the mountains, sons of Gaia.

Chalet Ourea is a very elegant 5 star free-standing house that can accommodate up to 20 people as well as seat all at one dining room table - no other chalet in Zermatt has this capacity combined with this level of luxury.

Just completed, Ourea is a modern-traditional chalet combining warm larch wood, a sloping beamed roof, 5 metre high wall to ceiling windows, wide terrace balconies and of course Matterhorn views. The pear-tree woodwork and fittings are all bespoke, while the bathrooms and kitchens are leading edge. It is in the process of being furnished by our interior decorator whose brief is to create a delicate mix of new and old, modern and alpine. The quiet location of this chalet is one of its best features. Whilst being well positioned in the village between the main lift system (Matterhorn Express) and the nearest shops and night life (both a 6 minute walk), it nonetheless affords an unrestricted view of the Matterhorn across wooded hills and snow fields. There are two paths to the chalet; c. 60 metres gently uphill from the nearest bus stop and taxi drop; or along a slightly longer flat path from the next stop.

The chalet comprises 4 apartments, each of which has its own kitchen and living room, making them fully independent should this be required. Ourea can be rented as one unit, or alternatively each apartment (or any combination thereof) may be rented separately. Most of the beds can be made up as singles or doubles, depending upon your requirements.

There is also a stylish wellness area downstairs with sauna, steam bath, rain-showers and relaxation room.

Ourea consists of:

The Zeus Penthouse: This triplex penthouse provides a breath-taking amount of space, with a surface area of 302 sq. metres, triple-height windows and a full-length wooden gallery. It has on the lower floor one master double bedroom with walk-in wardrobe anda large en-suite bathroom and one double bedroom with en-suite bathroom. On the top floor there are two double mezzanine suites (each with en-suite bathrooms). All rooms have their own en-suite bath or shower, and there is a guest toilet by the hall. In addition, there is a kids’ den and bunk room. In standard configuration it sleeps eight; while larger families or groups of up to twelve can be accommodated by using sofa-beds in the suites and the bunk room.

Apartments Helikon and Nysos (92 and 95 sq. metres respectively): Each elegant apartment has two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms (one bath/WC and one shower/WC), a spacious, modern, fully specified open plan kitchen with a dishwasher, coffee machine, fondue set, toaster, etc. The beds, side-tables and wardrobes are all hand-crafted in Zermatt, using a combination of local larch wood and slate. The south facing living rooms have a large balcony/terrace and Matterhorn views.

Studio Laurion (50 sq. metres): This cosy luxury studio is almost a one bedroom flat; it is so spacious and cleverly designed. It has a private sleeping area, sheltered from the main living area which has a sofa (-bed if required), a modern fully specified open plan kitchen and a bathroom/WC. The French windows give onto a south facing terrace with Mattherhorn views.

The Zeus Penthouse is fully catered by a professional chef and run by an experienced chalet host. The other three apartments are self-catered. However, if you book them in combination with Zeus, you will be catered for in the penthouse. Our gourmet service consists of English breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner for six nights, accompanied by outstanding complimentary wines and an open bar.
